If they were all LED's it would be drastically reduced.
One string of 50 LED's is around 7 watts compared to a regular strand at about 35 watts.

There is no doubt that you can do some awesome displays with all white lights of lights of all one color. I just prefer multi colored because that's what I'm use to.
I keep my decorations pretty simple, because the house I live in takes on the spirit of what ever I am celebrating, almost as though it has a mind of it's own. It's an old haunted house on Halloween, a place of family love and fellowship on Thanksgiving, a magical and holy place on Christmas, a fabulous place for Easter Egg hunts and Summer time back yare barbecues, and even to a limited extent, 4th of July fire works fun. No matter the time of the year, my house becomes that ocassion.
I have all of my nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews over for my Tree Trimming Party every December. They allways have the time of their lives, and the simplicity of the decor, IMHO is the reason for it. That old TRADITIONAL house I live in just lends itself to Christmas, as it does to any other holiday.

My bro just sent a pic of his new house and his outside lights are all blue, BLUE!
Blue...? I hate blue lights.
I am also jealous that he bought a house, but....BLUE!?!?!

I loves me some blue lights. But I haven't put up a single Crimbo light or decoration this year. It's still early though.

Mike, your house sounds amazing.
I have my yard decorated, but not my house yet. Every year I put up three light sculptures. Along the sidewalk (which is horizontal to the house from the carport) I have a row of six candy canes. The lights are red, white, and green. Then in front of them I have a crystal light sculpture of a reindeer, lifting his head. Across the yard from him there is another light sculpture of an angel blowing a trumpet, also in crystal.
I know that passersby don't think of it, but in my own mind these three light sculptures have a rationale. The candy canes, being colorful, remind me of Santa's workshop. The reindeer in front of them is sort of transitional, because he might remind people of Santa, too, but I think of him as symbolizing nature. And he is lifting his head to hear the angel, who represents the intervention of the divine into the natural world. To me the whole display brings together what Christmas is all about, but it does so in a subtle way, and it isn't too busy.

Mufreesboro, your display sounds gorgeous!
I like all blue sometimes. We did the house in all blue and the surrounding in white and it was beautiful against the snow. This year it's color. Next year I'm doing all white. I love that effect.
