Oh, we sure can. Back in the '70s & '80s, up in Detroit, they used to have something called "Devil's Night" on October 30th. These hoodlums would go around setting abandoned houses on fire. It went on for years up there. I don't think it happens anymore, though. I guess they must have finally burned everything down.
Happily, I haven't heard about too much Halloween vandalism around here. Occasionally over the years I have had a pumpkin go missing, or an empty candy bowl, if I've left one out for TOTers while I was away. But always those things have turned up a few days later, in unusual places on my own property. I always figured those were harmless Halloween pranks.

Sounds like they had it bad in Detroit then!

Probably not. If I had a flat porch roof (mine's slanted) then I would put a carved & lit Jack O'Lantern on it though.

Do you have any ideas in mind?
Maybe use a piece of wood to make some kind of platform?

I just stopped at a Spirit store while running errands and saw they sell pumpkin hangers. Looks like steel twisted wire, I couldn't see how it attaches to the jack-o-lantern. The picture on the front of the package makes it look like it's floating over the porch. I don't see how that wire wouldn't show up even on a darkened porch. Strong fishing line might still look better.
It would even bee cooler to hang some lit pumpkins from an Axworthy ghost rig. Have them floating around the yard. If only I had time this year.

I was going to use a few pumpkin hangers in the trees. Fishing line would be invisible but I also think it would be harder to work with.
As far has putting pumpkins on the roof, I need to survey the area to see what would work. As long as there isn't a strong wind, I think I can probably set a few up there and then maybe hang a few from the edges. I might also see about putting a larger jack-o-lantern on top of the chimney.

The thing about Dallas is that the fireplace usually doesn't get used until maybe December or later. October is not typically a chilly month. That big pumpkin is going to be just fine
