This show has lots of history, folklore, mythology, and spooky stories that you all would likely enjoy

I started my own Halloween viewing today with my personal choice to kick off the season, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. It's not really a Halloween or horror movie, but I love its atmosphere and slightly eerie tone. It just puts me into the mood for the spooky season.

Pretty good. I went to a surprise high school reunion back in March with my daughter ( since my husband couldn't get off work). It was a surprise because I graduated from a private school that no longer exists, and it was restricted to a specific 11th grade English class that we'd all loved, and held in the astonishingly beautiful home of our former teacher, who was only 9 years older than we were ( she'd left teaching after 3 years and become a very successful lawyer). I grew up in Jackson, MS, but because all my family there had died, my daughter had never been there. So I showed her all my old haunts. I also fulfilled a bucket list item or two by traveling all the way on the Natchez Trace, visiting the storied Windsor Ruins in Port Gibson (there's a Wiki article about them if you're curious), and finishing our trip in Natchez, staying in a hotel that overlooked the Mississippi. It was all very nostalgic and meaningful for me.

Otherwise a fairly quiet year. My daughter and younger son each took trips to Chciago to visit their brother, but I was happy to stay home. We lost a beloved pet, a cat, quite unexpectedly back in May when he contracted a bacterial infection we didn't know he had until he was dying of it. We still miss him, but we've weathered it. My husband has begun what he intends to be his last year of teaching, so he's all about planning for his retirement. One of his goals is to take up the trumpet again. He was a very good trumpeter in his youth and wants to get back into music.

So we're rocking along. I'm looking forward to the fall and holiday season. It's beastly hot around here right now. I'm ready for the seasons to change!

Sounds like you had a good year overall. Sorry to hear about your cat. My wife and I adopted two stray kittens when we lived in Morocco. Found them in our Casablanca neighborhood in 2022 and they've lived with us since. They're our first-ever pets as a couple, spoiled to us and us to them. can't imagine life without them, though I know that day will come. Enjoying their loving presence in our lives for as long as possible. We saved them and they saved us. God bless all the sweet kitties!

Tonight, I will watch HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH (1982) on the big screen at a local cinema

You know, I've never seen that one. I know it's a different story from the primary franchise. Is it enjoyable? I think the original Halloween is one of the best scary movies ever made.

This afternoon I'm watching The Gathering, with Christina Ricci and Ioann Gryffudd (not sure I spelled any part of that Welsh name right). Also not sure how many people even know that movie, but we like it.

You know, I've never seen that one. I know it's a different story from the primary franchise. Is it enjoyable? I think the original Halloween is one of the best scary movies ever made.

Basically, HALLOWEEN (1978) and HALLOWEEN III (1982) are the only in the Halloween series that I usually watch nowadays, because they're the only films in the franchise that are original IMHO. You would have to watch H3 to know if you like it. Completely different story, very original. After H2, John Carpenter wanted to make the Halloween series into an anthology with different storylines for each film, not just about Mike Myers. This movie was an attempt at that and fans reacted badly, so Halloween reverted back to Myers a few years later with H4. Now H3 is a cult film. I enjoy it for what it is, not what it isn't, and kind of wish Carpenter had continued with this anthology idea. Just my two cents...

I heard of it but never saw it because we didn't subscribe to that channel. We primarily watch dvds. We've been running a few "best of" Ghost Hunters episodes this afternoon. It's made me reflect on the couple or three times that I or someone in my family thinks we might have encountered a ghost.
