neat trick I swiped from local haunted house

Post by Stranger with candy » Tue Oct 23, 2007 2:01 pm

We went to Hangman's the other night, they had a 3-D funhouse which basically was a bunch of blacklight effective stuff. Anyway, in one room they had these glowing chains hanging from the ceiling. I couldn't figure out what they were so I went up and touched them. They had made them out of the fluorescent flagging tape that you can buy for a dollar a roll. They just stapled them together ala old school construction paper paper chains.

I made a few dozen last night, they're pretty nifty and a nice effect.

aww, OEJ. Ya know what they say about idle hands....

I just ran to Home Depot because Walmart only had orange last night..which glows nicely but it doesn't POP. I bought yellow and pink, but they were 2 bucks a roll.

Certainly! Let me do my yellow/orange combos and I'll post a pic tonight.

The flagging tape isn't really tape at all. When I first felt it I couldn't figure out for my life what the heck it was. I thought about it and thought about it and finally remembered that you sometimes see it on construction sites, or used on a stake to mark property lines. It looks like this:

You don't know the ideas this gives me.

Hanging a bunch of strips from the ceiling, in the hall would definatly be trippy! Something like a beaded curtain and just use a push pin for each one.

They have string like this too, IF I remember this correctly. It would be too cool to stretch the string from wall to wall, making a funky network of colored lines at all sorts of angles and directions.

I think the construction tape/ribbon is something that a hardware store should carry anyway. And the string. But Wal Mart had the string near the paints isle, last I knew. It's used as a construction marker. The different colors mark different things, like sewer, water & gas pipes and electrical conduit that are underground.

sorry 'bout the delay in my picture, time keeps slipping away from me. I tried taking some the night I promised but they kept coming out blurry because I was so rushed. I'll do it tonight after I finish my garage

wolfman, what you described, the vortex look, is how the first room of the funhouse was set up. But they had used this awesome fluorescent netting (?) it was sort of like fishing line yet all attached...? I can't describe it but it looked awesome.

Home Depot had the rope in bright colors, too. It caught my eye and made me stop to think but then I kept going..my brains too fried to hatch any new ideas this close to the party night.

Yeah, I hear ya. It's like trying to fill every available space with SOMETHING.
Party night isn't until the third for me, but dang if I ain't got gargoyles in my stomach.
A few things have yet to be done. I might just focus on that for the last few days,
rather than dream up any new projects. One of the things I have to do is get used to
a pair of wild eyes contacts. Their a soft lens but they're a bite to put in the eyes.

m,y camera took terrible pics in our party room. I should have adjusted it accordingly beforehand. ahh well. You can make out the chains hanging from the walls in the corners. I didn't get to make nearly as many as I wanted :zz but they were a nice touch..
