I blogged about the new The Conjuring movie. I saw the midnight show on late Thursday early Friday its doing great box office business. One of the better horror suspense films Ive seen since Sinister. Very creepy moody film.

Saw this today. Certainly worth the matinee price. It had plenty of solid scares with a minimum of gore. A nice break from some of the gore fests that have been released recently.

I doubt I'll see it at the theater, but it sounds like one to look for on DVD.

It's s'posed to be loosely based on the story of Annabelle, the haunted rag doll, who currently "lives" in a locked cabinet in the Warren Museum of the Occult. Yup-- two crazy old people keep a lot of creepy things in their house.
Anyone remember Chucky? Those films were allegedly based on Annabelle and Robert the Doll. While Robert is more mischievous, Annabelle tends to be more murderous... the Warrens warn that you not mock the doll while you're visiting because people who do tend to have trouble later.

The movie starts with Annebelle, then moves to a different case. The didn't use a Raggedy Ann doll, which to my understanding the original Annebelle was, but I imagine that has to do with a product brand. The doll the use in the movie is really creepy.

My ex-roommate is afraid of dolls, don't know why. I should drag her to this. She'd never forgive me.

Oh, you'd be surprised how many people are afraid of dolls. My daughter is 16 now, but I could never give her a doll that was in any way life-like or large-ish. She could play with Barbies, but not baby dolls. And I understood this, because I myself had a roomful of dolls when I was little, and I distinctly recall one afternoon, middle of the day, when I was sitting in the middle of my room, ringed by dolls, and suddenly I got totally freaked out. Suddenly it seemed as if they were staring back at me, you know? My mother was a non-nonsense type and pooh-poohed the whole thing ("I never heard of anything so ridiculous in my life, a little girl afraid of her own dolls!") But I think that is an experience many imaginative children have.

I saw this on Monday with my sister. I have to say it was scarier than I was going to give it credit for and it was actually a pretty good horror flick. It's been a long time since I've seen one that was both.

When I was a kid I was creeped out by dolls, mannequins, and ventriloquist dummies. I couldn't even watch the TV commercials for Magic.

I saw it and wasn't impressed. I guess my expectations were too high.

My sister hated it and my best friend loved it, I guess I'll wait for it on DVD.
