2008: Jekyll & Hyde

Post by jadewik » Tue Apr 08, 2008 7:16 pm

This year's theme at my house puts a twist on "Mad Science" (if it could get any more twisted) and combines it with the strange case of Dr Jeckyl and Mr Hyde... I'm to be the former, while my husband is going to be "Dr. Hyde".

I still have a lot of planning to do before Halloween...

My main goal this year was to put something together that wouldn't require any sewing of costumes. Labcoats are easily purchased and worn with jeans and a black tee-shirt. Jeckyl (me) will be a proper looking scientist... hair pulled back... pocket protector, pens, custom designed ID badges... etc. My husband, on the other hand (if it hasn't been cut off, that is), will be sporting a disheveled look and S.Todd's wild hair.

My husband wants to get a friend of his to be a cadaver... and he wants to pull the candy out of his friend's chest... which we haven't exactly worked out yet, but it promises to be intensely amusing. I have ideas rolling around in my head for a gurney we can prop the fake portion of the body on... and I already have ideas for hooking up an IV among other things. (Christmas lights, I've heard, make great "lab lights"... I also aquired a 4' black light for a Halloween display in my kitchen that I can borrow for the holiday... and I have some "lab equipment" and potion bottles from when I was a potion-making witch.... skulls, bones... I think that'll be enough for our usual, meager display.)

I believe this year I'll cave in and buy a fog machine and fake blood (I'm not much into the gore).... I'll have to make a chiller, but I have a few good resources for that so it shouldn't be an issue.

For the TOTers:
I still have about 600-700 glow bracelets left from last year. Yeay!
We're also thinking about handing out lanyards with visitor ID badges.
I'd like to do temp tattoos & Play-doh again.... I'm debating about the gliders...
Of course, there will also be candy. It worked out well last year passing out bags (though they took some time to put together) Mini-candies for the little kids and full-sized bars for the teens turned out to be a good combination. =)

... I suppose if I want to use any white sheets, I should go buy them soon... I know they're bloody hard to find in October!

I'm getting sooo excited! Halloween is a little over 6-months away. Lots to plan, Lots to plan!

 Wow! You have alot planned! I wish I could pull off something like that. The only problem is one word: money. To pull off something like that at my budget would mean a year of planning and imprivising.Sorry to disappoint.
