Re: So many ways...

I'd never even heard of them before we got Brindle, but her body and coloring reflected that breed. Her face was more like a spaniel's. She was a very high energy dog and lived to be over fourteen years old.

Re: Thrift and Yard Sale Shopping

My husband loves the Ancient Aliens series, so I've seen lots of that. I'm not totally sold on it, though I do think they raise some provocative questions from time to time. Like you, though, whether aliens exist or not has no effect on my religious faith. God is infinitely creative. If we're really...

Re: So many ways...

The only photos I have of Brindle are not digital. I'll have to search to find them. Honestly, I never expected to use actual photos. I just found stencils of cats, which are plentiful at Halloween. There are fewer images of dogs, and none that look like Brindle, who was a mutt. The vet speculated t...

Re: Fast Food Salads

A Bold Return to Giving a Damn. That was the name of the book. The guy who wrote it was a 6th generation farmer. Oh, and I utterly agree about the tomatoes. I've been told that the ones you buy at the store are picked green and subjected to some kind of gas that turns them red, but they aren't reall...

Re: Fast Food Salads

We all need to drink more water. My daughter read a book she passed along to me, written by a farmer in Georgia who has eschewed "industrial" farming for the more wholesome, traditional type. I can't recall the title right now. But some of the stuff he wrote was scary. He said that the che...

Re: Fast Food Salads

I've heard that some of the faux meats taste really good, but I've never tried them. That stuff is usually more expensive, and, as you say, one wonders if all the fake stuff is really good for a person. I could see being vegetarian or maybe piscetarian, but I don't understand vegan. The whole point ...

Re: Haunted Schools

Lee was the president of then-Washington College after the Civil War. And of course his pre-war home at Arlington had been appropriated by the Union for the beginning of Arlington Cemetery. So there really wasn't any other place to bury him in 1870. His horse, Traveler, is buried outside. Mary Baldw...

Re: Thrift and Yard Sale Shopping

Andy, you probably already know about Replacements, Limited in NC. They have everything.

I've never seen shelving underneath a stovetop like that. That's nice.

Re: Gardening

I'd have to check. Six or seven, I think. People do grow corn all over the place around here. I've just never done it.

Re: So many ways...

Oh, my. I'll have to think about that. I probably do have some actual photos of her. I'll have to hunt, and then figure out how to post one. Thanks so much for that offer!

Oh, I love the Depp/Burton Sleepy Hollow. It's like a jazz riff on the original, but I enjoy it immensely on its own terms.

Re: So many ways...

I wanted to carve Funkins to memorialize each of my deceased pets, but I succeeded with only one of them. I had a good pattern for a cat, but not for a dog when my dog passed. I tried, but I never finished hers, and I just sort of gave up on that project.
