Gorgeous turkey!
It's lovely to share the holiday with extended family, but in some ways I'm happy that our holiday is nuclear. Everything is simpler for us. When my husband and I were first married, he was in the Army, and we were never free to travel at the holidays. The higher ranking officers ...

Re: Happy Thanksgiving
Andy, I love seeing your decorations every year, for every season!
Happy Thanksgiving to you both, and to anyone else reading here! My husband has the whole week off from school, which is pleasant for all of us. In addition to the feasting, he and I want to continue decluttering and organizing the ...

Re: Catching up
I have a theory that "love at first sight" is more common for men than for women. I can't say it never happens for women, but I think most women are just more cautious than that, because they risk more. I mean, men risk their hearts, which isn't nothing. But women potentially risk their lives and ...

Re: Catching up
My husband always says that he was aware of me at the auditions that Thursday, and that, when I showed up in the choir at the first rehearsal and was picking up my music, he turned to his friend in the tenor section and said, "That's the woman I'm going to marry." I didn't know this until some time ...

Re: Catching up
Anyway, I went to this concert choir audition on a Thursday afternoon, and it was thronged. It was primarily an undergrad organization, but nothing prevented grad students from auditioning, and a smattering did. I've never felt more out of place or uncomfortable in my life. Everyone else seemed to ...

Re: Catching up
I had a dr's apptmt, so I'm just now getting back to my story.
I've sung all my life. My father had me singing for company when I was three. I'd done church choirs and school choirs and community choruses and sung solos at assemblies throughout my growing up years, so I thought for a hot minute ...

Re: Catching up
What a wonderful story! Thanks for sharing those memories with us. Even without seeing her face, I can tell your wife is a beautiful woman. And that hair! Mine is long, too, always has been, but it's never been as luxuriant and thick as hers is. What a stunner! No wonder you were agog.

Re: Catching up
Oh, I think my husband is well aware that we can all be tracked through phones, iPads, etc. I suspect he just doesn't want to make it even easier than it already is. Our son mislaid his phone the other day and had a dickens of a time finding it because he'd turned it off. He said he was worried ...

Re: Catching up
Lol! I would have watched it if my TV could bring in anything other than a smattering of religious channels. Before the HD revolution, our tv reception was excellent. But it's been diminishing steadily since that change away from analog. We'll never get anything again unless we re-up to the internet ...

It sounds like you're a wonderful boss, and I'm sure your employees appreciate you.

It was 44 years this past Oct.
He's five yrs younger than I am, so he's still working.
I hope you and your wife enjoy your anniversary, however you spend it.

Re: Catching up
So sorry about that. Yes, throwing a desk, or throwing desks around. Usually I proof meticulously, but sometimes I get distracted by something before I'm done. I hate making typos, but I have only my phone for internet access, and they occur more often than not. Especially since my phone sometimes ...

Re: Catching up
Being married to a public school teacher for several decades, I am aware of how the teachers' hands are often tied. The No Child Left Behind initiative was probably well intentioned, but in practice it became No Child Can Fail. Teachers were themselves punished if the kids didn't get passed along ...

Re: Catching up
There is so much wisdom in what you've written that I scarcely know how to comment on it. I know I am very leery of the cashless economy, digital currency, etc. I worry that our wealth will be at the discretion of TPTB once physical currency is gone.

Re: Catching up
That's a crazy story, about those two girks' not being able to make change. That's such basic math. I think my kids were learning that in first grade.
I was a college English prof and have graded thousands of papers. I would never want to do that job now, with AI in the mix. The last time I taught ...
