Harry Potter Halloween

Post by MHooch » Sun Mar 18, 2007 12:45 am

You guys know that I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan...and since this is the year that the last book  will be published, I think I'm gonna have Potter-themed Halloween party this year. What do you think? Too geeky?

Sounds good, I don't think it's too geeky.

My daughter would bless you for months. She made me buy her the HP Scene It game. She won't let it out of her room. I haven't seen it since I bought it. She can recite every line of the movies, she has every book. She drives us nuts. For an 18 yr old you think obsession would be something different. The party sounds like a great idea, don't change it.

LOL deadbride, my daughter is 18, too, but she just rolls her eyes  at me when I go on about my Potter obsession!!! We really do have a good time with it, we (my husband, what a sport ...and I) dress in costume for book publishing events and all movie premieres. My specialty, of course, is Madam Hooch, only because my hair is short and spiky and easily dyed grey. My husband has done both Dumbledore (complete with crepe hair beard to his waist) and Snape. The little kids just LOVE it when we show up. The daughter, however...well...she just rolls her eyes!!

I'd love to see that. Post a pic if you have one. Every now and then we all sit down and run a marathon of the movies and my daughter and I point out differences between them and the books. Hubby gets upset. My dad managed to get a book signed. Not sure how but he did. My daughter keeps trying to steal it from him. Eventually he'll give in and give it to her.  She tried to talk me into buying her a wand out at the flea market but I wouldn't. Anything that reminds her of Harry Potter!

I think a Harry Potter themed Halloween is an absolutely magnificent idea!! The books and movies lend themselved so easily to the Halloween spirit, and there are sooo many neat things you can do with it. So many great food and decor ideas, not to mention the costumes! I'm so excited for you, Hooch.

Britta is the one who I modeled a lot of my design around. She's a talented woman and pretty darn nice to boot! Harry Potter themed movies are almost as big as Pirates themes, and not geeky at all. I say go for it, and have FUN!!

Hey Hooch, Not at all geeky! So cool, wish I could be there  ok here are a few ideas I have:
1) Try to create some sort of gothic arch for over doorways & window frames.
2) Make a Hogwarts School Shield for on your front door or entryway hall wall
3) Place a fogging cauldron somwhere, outside front door ?
4) Place throughout party room: Stuffed toy white owl, potion bottles, broomstick
5) Maybe stick to one room such as The Great Hall if your party room is contained to one area
6) Make Wizard maps for invitations. Round the edges of Parchment paper with scissors. Write the party details (hogwarts School, AKA your house) using invisible ink felt pens available at craft stores. Roll them into cylinders and REPLACE INTO mailing tubes along with a decoder pen and mail.
7) have lots of Candelabras throughout and candle wall sconces on the wall "buring if you can"
8) Create Hagrids house out in your front yard and have a fake magickal creature outside it

Well those are just a few ideas for now Hooch, will let you know of anymore I think of.

Hey Hooch, I was on ebay looking at Halloween decor and came across a Hogwarts School Banner Flag. You can either just type into the search box "halloween decor" and then scroll down until you find it, or faster yet type in it's item number: 220114540424, I didn't read all the sellers details on it but it looked pretty magnificent and there were zero bids on it :D Good luck if you decide to bid ^v^
