Leaving the decorations UP!

Yeah, well, this is the Halloween message board, so I thought it wouldn't be bad to start a topic about...people who keep their decorations up a little longer past Halloween!

There are many excuses to do so and many more if you look for them. I'm tired and lazy! I have to rest after Halloween, that was exhausting! The list goes on.

I looked out the window a little while ago and the apartment building across the way had a LIT pumpkin decoration on their roof, all plugged in and functioning. I think they probably just left it on and forgot to unplug it. But maybe they...left it there on purpose?

I try to keep the decorations up a little longer past Halloween because I don't mind people knowing that I WANT the holiday to go on longer. One day is just not enough and anything that extends the festivities is to my mind a good thing.

So I took one of my lit pumpkins and put it in the window. It's all ablaze with blinking, winking bulbs, right now!

My excuse is, I had to be elsewhere on Halloween Night and was not at home running my decorations. Tonight I am running them to wrap this Halloween thing up proper!

Comments please.

Unfortuantely, a storm's brewin' in my neck of the woods, so I had to take all mine down. More power to you, Tom, but I think I just say Beavis heading into your tool shed . . .

I do the same thing, and also try to sense the Halloween experience anyway I can, anything to squeeze the last little bit out of the holiday. I even hum Halloween songs I learned as a child. Neurotic , child like behavior?, maybe, but I'll bet many of you do the same.

Unfortunately for me, I ran my full haunted house all Halloween night and closed down, then did a complete breakdown on the spot. The clubhouse had to be pretty much usable by morning for the management. So I only had about 3 hours sleep by Wednesday morning and had to come in there and finish cleaning and packing stuff all day Wednesday. My own house looks like a hurricane hit it and so does my storage unit and shed.

My house is a pretty bit mess now too. Yes last night after work and bathing my kids I started taking down my stuff. I know for some people it seems to fast but for me it helps me with getting over the Halloween events in a good way. I took the time to look at them all in more detail, wrap things that needed to be wrapped and pack them in my orange and black rubbermaid containers. I have about 75% down and only a small amount of the stuff down is actaully packed the rest is set on on my front room couch then of course there is the stuff I have tacked to my ceiling and places I can't reach that I will need to get down tonight. I think all the power to people if they want to leave them up but for me I find it theraputic to take stuff down....

I'm going to take all my stuff down this weekend, I'm packing the boyfriend and the roomie off to an all day (and probably all night) barbecue birthday party on Saturday and I'm going to tear the place up. We've decided that the javelina hog head trophy will stay above the fireplace, it reminds me of the Royal Tennenbaums. I love all my decorations, and I still love having them around right now, but I'm going to go ahead and pack them all up now, so I can have my house organized and clean before I go on vacation next week and so I can begin the anticipation of next Halloween. Getting out my decorations in August was a blast, and I can't wait to start pulling out boxes next year, I'm like a kid at Christmas. Only 363 more days!

I have to start taking stuff down as soon as it is over, same for Christmas...it's like everything looses it's magic or something...even right now, I still have to make about 50 trips to the attic, cause I drug alot of the stuff to the one guest room, but that's as far as it got, and I need more totes. You get use to looking at everything for a month, but that month seems to fly by so fast any more. I just wish stuff lasted longer.

I was talking to someone who's my age, she had said about when we were kids...how Trick or Treating lasted all day...My mom said when she was a kid it lasted all week, and you could pick any night to go, and you could go to different areas of town. I don't know why everything gets so crammed in to 2 hours now.

Someone called me yesterday who had been to our party to say how much fun they had, and we were talking about how people don't socialize any more...it seems like they are always running around doing 5 million different things, and I have said this before...what is the purpose of having all this technology ...where everything is suppose to be made to save people time, when it seems like nobody has time for anything.

That's a very good observation. All those time-saving things we have that...don't really save time.

I take the day before Halloween off for the sole purpose of taking down all decorations. Eight big tubs later my house looks forlorn. :( To cheer myself up on Nov. 1st I go shopping early in the morning and buy a few harvest decorations 50% off...it gives me something to look forward to after I've put everything away from Halloween. My mom bought me two Jim Shaw witch figures and I'm keeping them on the shelf all year because they have quilt patterns on their skirts - that's my story and I'm sticking to it! :D There are a few people in my neighborhood who still have their lights and yard decorations up. It warms my heart to drive by and more power to them I say!

COMAST CABLE JUST STARTED A NEW CHANNEL CALLED FRIGHT FEST, THAT HAS A FEW SPOOKY MOVIES. I JUST GOT HOME, IT IS DARK, AND I WAS TRYING TO CATCH A FEW FINAL GLIMPSES OF HALLOWEEN LIGHTS AND JACK O LANTERNS STILL BURNING. BUT SOON THEY WILL ALL BE GONE, AND JUST MEMORIES. BUT NEXT YEAR I WILL BE FOUND SITTING IN THAT PUMPKIN PATCH WAITING FOR THE GREAT PUMPKIN!!
