How about Handel's Messiah?

I grew up in NJ, so NYC was just a short train or bus ride away. When I was in high school, our band director used to take us every year to Carnegie Hall to hear Handel's Messiah performed by the Masterworks Chorus and Orchestra. Still gives me goosebumps just to think about it. NYC is at its best in the Christmas season, the lights, the big tree in Rockefeller center, the store windows.... :Hooch sighs nostalgically: it sure was fun! Anybody else listen to the Messiah as part of their Christmas season?

Our church choir got to DO it one year.

Took months of practise. I was in the bass section with my Dad...three or four bass...

One year, after dropping off the kids, I was surfing the fm band and found it..pulled over to hear it and just remember..

yeah, New York in the winter..around Christmas..that would be cool...someday...

We have it as a whole production at the Crystal Cathedral here in So Cal. I hear it sells out every night in December. I would love to go sometime.

You should, LDC...I promise you won't be dissapointed. It has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with beautiful music.

I LOVE The Messiah. My favorites from it are Halleuah Chorus, For Unto Us A Child Is Born, and And the Glory of the Lord.

I grew up in a big church that performed Handel's Messiah every year on the Saturday preceeding Christmas.
The choir was a community choir whose singers consisted of various church choirs in the area.
Organ, orchestra and about 100 - 120 singers.

IMHO: Handal's MEssiah is simply one of the most inspired compositions of all time.
