One of my silly joys at Christmas is seeing what joy these specials bring to everyone and knowing that I saw most of them, including Rudolph, the very first time they aired.
When Rudolph aired for that first time, I was three and I remember it VERY vividly. I even remember the commercials where Santa was sliding around the snow on that Norelco electric razor.
I cried at three points: When the mud got nocked off of Rudolph's nose while playin around; When Rudolph left his friends sleeping and went back on the ice raft; And when Cornelius and the Snow Monster fell over the cliff.
I cried at those points everytime til I was about 9.

Re: Rankin/Bass Thread
When I was young, we lived far enough out in the sticks that cable wasn't even available, so we got one channel in the Summer months and maybe two or three in the Winter months. Thank goodness, CBS was the one channel we got in all year and back in the day, CBS carried most of the great Christmas classics. Remember back in the day when we didn't have VHS or DVD and you got one shot to see these?
I agree, wouldn't be Christmas without these!

Ahhh....I love this Christmasy time of year!

I agree! Christmas needs those. And they were almost always "Sponsored by, York Peppermint Patties." (At least where I grew up).

Really? I didn't remember that. I just remember the York parts!
I know they sponsored the Charlie Brown specials, but didn't recall this!
