Homemade versus Store bought decor

Post by DemonSlayerMau » Mon Sep 08, 2008 5:36 pm

Do you primarily buy store bought decorations, or do you prefer to make your own? I have a lot of store bought stuff that I've accumulated over the years. Often you find really neat stuff at the stores, if you're willing to shell out the price, though the dollar stores lately have been having a lot of good stuff. If you're not very artistically inclined this is probably the best way to go.
On the other hand, if you're the artsey crafty type, sometimes it's more fun to make your own stuff. Some people may want to go by a specific pattern, but personally I like to just come up with whatever is in my head, and however it turns out is the way it will turn out. This way each creation is unique and all your own. Making your own stuff can be highly inexpensive, especially if you go with Construction paper and painting rocks, or other artistic mediums. I've even got a charcoal drawing of the grim reaper...but that I think I'll keep up all year long anyway :p
So this is pretty much a store bought versus homemade decorating discussion. :3
This probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory,

Even though some home made props look very good and scary. There is just something about store bought decorations I like best. I don't know why. :?

Well sometimes the homemade ones might look tacky.
...actually I'm not sure what tacky means I see that word being used a lot in here. XD;
I think they're both good depending on what you get and your artistic skill.
But so far, still lacking in the black cats department. xx;

Tacky can mean geeky or corny. But some VERY good home made props I have seen are amazing. But I just prefure the store bought decorations. I really do not understand my mind. It has a lot of messed up confusing things in it.

My homemade stuff is the best. More the proper size and weight. Less cheezie.

I think it depends on the prop and the quality. Some homemade decorations are awesome, some just look sad. :(

If I had more energy after a hard day's work, I would love to try doing something hand made. Perhaps after I retire I'll give it a try.

Nothing brings back happier childhood Halloween memories than sitting around the dining room table making my own decorations with my family.

It's the spirit of the thing that I cherish, the actual creations were not so hot.

Good point, Andy. When I was a kid, and it got close to October, I use to love making pumpkins wth orange construction paper. They never looked like professionaly done decorations, but they would adorn my bedroom walls through out the entire month of October.

I've mentioned this a couple of time here and there, but my folks were the biggest kids of all.

They were married on Halloween back in 1947, long before it was a hip thing to do; practically got them excommunicated.

We had every windowpane decked out in their 1914 farmhouse, and more stuff all over the walls inside.

Awesome times.

Do you wanna know why i use a knife? Guns are too quick.
You can't savor all the little emotions. And you see
in their last moments people show you who they really are.

why so serious?
