Setting up a Halloween party!

Post by Halloween_Girl » Mon Sep 10, 2007 10:39 am

i know who to invite , what music to play, and what decorations to put up,
but, I don't know what to serve or what invites to get. I'm setting the date for Oct.14 or 20. Because on Halloween we trick-or-treat yes the cats out of the bag i'm 14.

Well, food is easy. People will basically eat whatever is put in front of them!! LOL We usually have chips and salsa, spinach dip in a bread bowl served with the pieces of bread for dipping, cocktail meatballs in a crock-pot, a veggie tray, a fruit tray, a cheese and cracker platter, and something sweet, brownies, cupcakes or cookies. All finger foods (or toothpicks for the meatballs) and all stuff that can be made ahead. I'm not into spending time in the kitchen at my own party.

The invites can be your own design, or there are plenty of really cute ones in the stores. If you have access to a printer and computer, the possibilities are endless. Sometimes we make up a little poem. My hubby enjoys that part of the party planning!

Cobwebs, Cheese cloth, and spooky lighting. You can do wonders what that stuff.

You know, if you're drinking after or during your party, drinking alcohol, I'd be able to give you some special brewing tips that are cheap and easy. like 'black blood' 'owls blood' etc. let me know.

Unless of course you're underage.

I only just joined, love. So I had no idea of knowing how old you are, that's why I said 'Unless of course you're underage'.

Hope your party goes well for you... let us all know how it goes.

Halloween-Girl, I'm still working on the ganes/activities angle. You need lots of music (for dancing) and DVD's of horror movies to play with the sound of, just for atmosphere. But I'm stuck on games for teens, except charades. We play charades every year with Halloween related words and phrases. I'm still looking into it, though, I haven't forgotten you.

Anybody else got any good game/activity ideas for the teen age group??

I don't care what anyone says - bobbing for apples is ALWAYS a good laugh, no matter how old you are ;)

And if you want to keep the mess to a minimum, instead of using water you can have an apple hanging from the ceiling that you have to catch using only your mouth. Same principle, but a lot less messy, and people don't wash their spooky make-up off whilst playing ;) You could even give a prize for the person who catches an apple the quickest.

One thing we always used to do when the party started to wind down, is sit in a circle on the floor and, by the light of a Jack O' Lantern, tell ghost stories or stories of spooky things that have happened to you in real life.

We also used to LOVE playing "Murder in the Dark" - but you need to make sure you have free reign of a house so you can use lots of rooms. I've just made a thread about it here:

If you want to give it a go :) Hope these ideas helped - have a blast!

Invites:
See if you can get to a stationary store, and pick up some Halloween themed paper. This might ALREADY be decorated with images as a border.

Then, all you have to do is create the text within the borders. Saves a lot of ink, if you don't have to print EVERYTHING thats on the invitations.

Then decide on envelopes. Maybe a small rubber stamp to stamp on the back of the envelopes?

If it was me, I would also put a small bit of Halloween confetti &/or snippets of colored ribbon, inside the invitation, so when it's unfolded, the confetti spills out. It would be like you sent a bit of the party with the invitation.

Just to add something fun and unique.

One year I rolled the invitations into tubes and tied them with a purple ribbon. I also hand delivered them where possible. Everyone thought it was creative, fun and kind of "old world gothic".
