Before elves and eight tiny reindeer, St. Nicholas had a much more menacing assistant. Named Black Peter, this companion was the physical opposite of St. Nicholas. Tall and gaunt with a dark beard and hair, Black Peter was associated with the punitive side of Christmas. Traditionally St. Nicholas would hand out presents to good children, while it fell to Black Peter to dole out coal (and sometimes knocks on the head) to children who misbehaved.

Was it cut backs from having to traverse the globe

from the North Pole to the South Pole, before he

even gets the chance to visits the homes of children?



Or was it because the added cost over runs of all that

coal that takes up so much room and weighs so much?

Did you ever see the christmas show of "Venture Brothers" of Adult Swim/Cartoon Network? It has a Kampus invading their Christmas party. The Monarch was so impressed with the costume that the Kampus was wearing. (It didn't dawn on him that it was a real beast.) It's always an amusing show, regardless. I used to watch it when I had cable.



But instead, I opted for highSpeed cable.

Now I can get coal whenever I want it.
