This was a fun & spooky old-timey Halloween themed historic house tour in the historic districts of old Petaluma. Last year it was held on Oct. 30th, 2005 and drew a very large crowd. There was a reenactment of a Victorian-era Spiritualist Séance led by a local charlatan, Miss Aurora Palmer, who led the participants into the spirit realm complete with automatic writing, spirit possessions and materializations. Miss Palmer (actually a local actress) was able to channel a dog named Fido (much to the delight of onlookers!), reveal the whereabouts of hidden treasure and identify the real killer of one of the participants deceased fiancé. All fake, nothing but Victorian trickery...but very entertaining and true to the time period and practices of the 1800's Spiritualist Movement.

In addition each of the homes on the 2005 tour were decked in their best old-fashioned Halloween finery complete with flying ghosts, mourning home decor, a fake dead husband lying in state in the front bedroom at his historic home, docents dressed in Victorian mourning attire and softly lit rooms illumined by candlelight. A fun time was had by all!

This year the 2006 Halloween House Tour will feature some of Petaluma's most mysterious historic houses and a local "Witches Consortium" where they will brag about all the havoc they have been able to cause in Petaluma over the last year and make their dastardly plans for their new year which begins on November 1st.
