For Feb: Romantic Halloween Movie, Spooky Romantic Movie

Valentines Day is coming up, and this little gem will help you with the following situations.

#1.) Your eyes meet at a party. They are beautiful. Articulate. And asking everyone in the room what their favorite movie is. Two people beside you have already been shot down trying to impress them by mentioning stuff like TEXAS CHAIN SAW while they came back with THE CHILDREN OF PARADISE...You want to impress, but DON'T want to abandon your Halloween roots.
#2.) They are new in town and are going to be stuck there until the part comes from Toronto for the car. You've been doing not too bad with them, and suggest you take it back to YOUR place for dinner and a video...they look at you with a glance that says:"And just WHAT kind of movie do you THINK you own that would interest to ME?
#3.) You are different. Goth. Punk. Alternative. Whatever. But you want it romantic, and you want it sweet, and you also don't want to loose your edgy ways in a vat of sentiment. It has to be romantic, but you also want it UNUSUAL.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (1946) Jean Cocteau directing. B&W. French with English subtitles.
Universally regarded as one of the great works of cinema...timeless classic. But way way out there.
Can we say SURREAL, kids?
See where Disney stole the idea for the arms holding torches coming out of walls. See Belle with an EDGE. Return to being a kid and being intimidated by the Beast.
The atmosphere, the style, the effects are spooky and weird and totally a work of art. The music and the scenes come together sometimes only by sheer luck. The director gets more emotional impact out of his sixty year old special effects that they put together at the end of World War II then anybody does lately with CGI.
Your goth lover will melt in your arms. The person at the party will smile and admire you. You'll get them back to your place for the dinner and video...Your taste will be admired and you just might get LUCKY..

You're welcome.
